Walk Paws is a personal UX/UI design project that demonstrates my ability to design cross-platform pet care applications. This case study showcases my approach to creating a purpose-driven platform concept that would connect pet owners with local dog walkers while promoting social good. The project highlights responsive design principles and user-centered design methodology across mobile and desktop platforms.
For this personal project, I identified a gap in the pet care market: the need for a reliable, user-friendly platform that connects pet owners with trusted dog walkers. The design challenge I set for myself was to create a socially conscious application concept while ensuring a responsive design that maintains functionality and aesthetics across all device sizes.
Following UX methodologies, I implemented a user-centered design approach to ensure the final product would meet user needs while maintaining design standards.
I created detailed persona profiles to gain deeper insights into target users' motivations, pain points, and behavioral patterns. I developed two distinct personas representing the primary user segments: pet owners and dog walkers. These personas served as foundational tools throughout the design process, ensuring the solutions addressed real user needs.
The ideation phase began with rapid sketching to explore initial concepts and information architecture. These low-fidelity sketches served as the foundation for the app's core functionality, focusing on creating an intuitive user flow for booking dog walking services.
Early concept exploration for core user flows
Rapid sketching to explore different layout options
Following the initial sketching phase, I created digital wireframes using Figma to establish a more structured foundation for the application. This step involved translating rough concepts into digital layouts.
Low-fidelity wireframe showing homepage structure and navigation
Date selection and booking interface wireframe
The high-fidelity phase marked the transformation of wireframes into a polished, visually engaging prototype. This stage focused on implementing the complete visual design system while maintaining the user-centric functionality established in earlier phases.
Introduction to the app's core features
Quick overview of the booking process
Final onboarding screen before login
Main dashboard with quick action cards and navigation
Choose preferred date and time for dog walking service
Browse and select from available verified dog walkers
The final phase focused on developing a comprehensive responsive design strategy that would optimize the user experience across all devices while serving as an effective marketing platform for the mobile application.
Optimized touch interactions and vertical scrolling
Balanced layout utilizing medium screen space
Full-featured layout with expanded navigation
To maintain design consistency and streamline the development process, I created a comprehensive UI component library that forms the backbone of Walk Paws' visual and interactive elements. This approach ensures a cohesive user experience across all touchpoints.
If this were a real-world project, I would focus on several key areas for continued development and refinement:
